….. And ICAN and MLSCN too
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) have respectively accredited the Accounting and Medical Laboratory Science programmes of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State.  The two professional bodies conveyed the message in two separate letters written to the University. ICAN’s letter was signed by Mr. O. E. Babatunde, Assistant Director, Students’ Affairs, while Professor A. O. Emeribe, Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, signed on behalf of Governing Board of MLSCN.
The development was the outcome of the accreditation exercises conducted by the two professional bodies earlier this year. The ICAN accreditation four-man team, led by Dr. (Mrs.) Yinka Adenikinju, was in the University between August 23 and August 25, 2011 while Professor Emeribe led the MLSCN team to the University between July 13 and july 16. 2011. 
With the accreditation of these two programmes, Achievers University has been endorsed as a professional training centre for both Accounting and Medical Laboratory Science programmes. Apart from this, graduates of the University’s Accounting programme are exempted from Foundation and Intermediate stages of ICAN exams but will only take PE I and PE II examinations.
Also, with the MLSCN’s endorsement, Medical Laboratory Science students of the University are qualified to write MLSCN-moderated examinations, and upon graduation, they are issued licences which allow them to practise as biomedical scientists in Nigeria and abroad.
Professor Adebayo Odebiyi, Vice-Chancellor of the University, who broke the good news, congratulated all the staff and students, and expressed the University’s commitment to excellence. He assured parents of the University that everything was being done to give the students the best, in line with the University motto of  “Knowledge, Integrity and Leadership”. 
Earlier in September, the two courses were among the programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) during an exercise conducted in August 2011. The other programmes accredited are Business Administration, Economics, Industrial Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Computer and Information System.
